It´s a chipboard (3 layers), that receives on it´s faces a recover of melamine (it´s a type of plastic) of plain colours or a imitation of woods, granites, etc. During the process of laminating a polymeric material (plastic) is produced of the melamine, introducing (plastic) in the pores of the board and provides a perfect fix. The melamine is a barrier against dampness, steam, chemical agents, erosion and scratches.
The wood imitations of melamine are every time more perfect, as for the making of them, real woods photos by computer programs are used , and in some cases is difficult to distinguish from a varnished wood, specially for an ignorant in this subject. The melamine can be smooth, or with a porous finish. The finish consists in engraving the streak of the wood, so it can be perceptible to the eyesight and sense of touch. The thickness of the melamine establishes the quality of the board.
It doesn´ t admit any type of finish, and it´s necessary to seal up the edges with tape or casing. It´s cleaned with a damp cloth and soap. It´s a cheap board, and it´s commercialized in the same thickness as uncovered chipboard.
